We wish to advise that due to the COVID-19 health crisis, there will be changes to the way health surveillance medical/assessments will now be performed where there is a requirement for a respiratory lung function test. Following the Guidelines released yesterday from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science (ANZSRS), they have recommended that all lung function testings/spirometry tests to cease effective immediately. This recommendation of cessation to perform lung function tests is because COVID-19 is a respiratory illness, the transmission of the virus to the equipment and the technician/health practitioner performing the test is a high risk.
Upon discussion with our Occupational Physicians who are performing these medicals, they will continue to see Stonemasons for their annual health surveillance assessment but their Section 1 report will be modified pending future lung function test results once they become available to safely perform at the respiratory clinics.
